I've figured it out. They tricked us. School was supposed to start tomorrow, just like it is scheduled to. The administration never planned to have us start classes two days ago. The professors got together and decided that they were sick and tired of having all of these whiny, spoiled college students in on the first day of classes griping and complaining that break didn't feel nearly long enough, so they decided to make a plan. It went something like this: Prof. 2 (yes, he can speak first even though his name is 2; rid yourselves of those stereotypes, people): If I have to deal with one more kid in my class blaming me for Christmas break being over, I'll feed all 45,000 students to Reveille myself. Prof. 1: I'm pretty sure they won't let you do that, Cliff. Some guy tried that last year, and they got really worried about the dog. Students are replaceable, but Rev...well, that's different. Prof. 2: Fine. But I have a plan to make it all stop. I'll need your help. Prof. 1: Yes, I will be the executor of your will. Prof. 2: Huh? Prof. 1: Oh, never mind then. What's your plan? Prof. 2: We schedule "inclement weather" days. Whether the weather is 76 and sunny or below freezing, we call the first two scheduled days of class "inclement weather" days (and nobody really knows what that means anyway) and we really begin on Thursday. By then, all of these kids will have been trapped in College Station for at least three days with absolutely nothing to do. They'll be begging to come back to class. Prof. 1: Not bad, Cliff. Not bad at all. So, we had two inclement weather days, and used them to their fullest potential, which I'm afraid to say wasn't much, seeing as it was not 76 and sunny. We watched most of the movies we brought with us, ate, and colored lots and lots of pictures. And (if you have heart problems, please do not read the following statement) I even broke down yesterday and went to the Rec with Kara, Karen, Chloe, and Brian and worked out. It hurt. I realized once more why I generally refuse all physical activity. I'm just ready to do something, even if it is class. |
